Here comes the bride and Flower Boy.

Here comes the bride and Flower Boy.

Play is such an important part of a child’s development. You need only look at a documentary of children raised in Romanian orphanages to see what would happen without it. Kids are happy to play with just about anything from kitchen pots and pans to shop bought toys. They sing, dance, dress up and sometimes this happens with the most unusual things.

The other day we had some bird mesh to make the trampoline safe. Zoe picked up a piece wrapped it around herself and off she went. She was an instant bride. I started humming a bit of music for her to walk down the isle and Riley joined in. He was playing with his water toy and happened to be holding a palm tree, which doubled as a great bouquet. He grabbed the end of Zoe’s train and followed her for a number of laps around the outdoor tables.

These experiences bring joy to our lives, watching our children play together, laugh together and learn together is such a happy time. When I asked Zoe who she was going to marry and she answered Riley I don’t think a bigger smile would have fitted on my face. Well why not. Nanny is married to grandad, they are family, I am married to Shane, and he is family so when you are 3 why not marry someone from the family. It is after all the only way you know.

“you should see how its done in sweden, theres a doco somewhere around on it. kids there spend heaps of time outside, and start school at 7 instead of 5, and their literacy rates are fantastic! they are allowed to climb trees and run around outside most of the day..shows how gross motor devt really affects literacy outcomes when it comes to schooling.”

I loved writing a diary for both of my children during their first year, I also made them a wonderful scrapbook of photos. Since my son turned 1 I needed a new avenue to express my creativity - Blogging combines my love of scrapbooking, kids activities, photography and writing.
I hope you enjoy taking a peek at our lives.
